About Me

Caroline Corbett MAPCP, MNAPCP, M.Ps.S.I

B.A. Hons. Psychology/ M.A. CBT

It is important that we all find the right person to help us in our time of need and with this in mind I thought it might help to give you a brief outline of my working background and a sense of who I am.

In the 1990’s I started out working with social services in the U.K on a voluntary basis helping troubled teenagers from dysfunctional backgrounds, where I gained a lot of experience and in-house counselling training. I moved back to Ireland in 2000 and managed an after school community programme in Celbridge which was set up for primary school children.  In 2004 I took up on an opportunity to work with pre-school children on the autistic spectrum and gained over 8 years training and experience in behavioural therapy underpinned by Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA).

During this time I completed a 4 year Psychology Honours Degree and graduated in 2012 after which I started working privately as an intervention therapy consultant in homes, pre-schools and mainstream schools, which involved collaboration with multidisciplinary and school support teams.  My role involved carrying out functional assessments, writing up behavioural support plans and implementing/teaching strategies to teachers, SNAs and family members.

My work branched out to helping youngsters with other additional needs, such as ADHD and emotional dysregulation.  The more I worked with this cohort of students the more I wanted to dig deeper into the field of neurodiversity and gain more therapeutic skills.  I completed my 2 years Honours Master’s Degree in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) in 2017 and chose to do my dissertation on ‘The Inclusion of Children with Additional Needs in Mainstream Schools’.   I then worked with primary school children through the school completion project (2018-2020).   Foroige then contracted me to work as a counsellor in the primary and secondary schools (2021-2023), during which time I was also working with private clients in my practice in Mullingar.  My work then brought me to Dublin where I worked as a counsellor/psychotherapist with private clients on a full time basis and with the Simon Dublin Community as a volunteer counsellor when I could.

My Approach

Adapting a compassionate humanistic integrative approach I now work primarily as an accredited and experienced counsellor/psychotherapist.  I am also trained in ‘Emotional Focused Therapy Working with Couples’, at externship and core skills level.  Sessions can either be online or face to face, which ever is of preference.

I am dedicated to helping individuals improve their mental health and well-being and in working with me my first aim is to develop a good therapeutic relationship in a non-judgemental, warm and safe environment for you to explore your thoughts, feelings and concerns, whereby I  tailor each counselling session to meet your unique needs.  Whether you are struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, low confidence, stress, relationship issues or any other personal challenges, I will work with you using different therapeutic approaches, employing the use of appropriate tools to empower you to overcome obstacles, develop coping skills and live a more authentic and fulfilling life.

Modalities of therapy I use include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Person Centred, Mindfulness CBT, Integrative Family Systems, Emotional Focused Therapy…….
